RARE Lighting

From Idea to Innovation

The RARE Lighting System was founded with a simple idea: the lights we already use every day could do more than just brighten a room. They could also make the spaces where we live, work, and gather safer and healthier.

The company began during the pandemic, when our founder, Rodney Branigan, combined a curiosity for technology and a love of performance spaces to rethink how air quality could be improved without bulky equipment or disruptive installations. What started as early prototypes in a farm workshop has grown into a venture supported by Texas Tech Innovation Hub, research partnerships, and multiple patents pending.

At RARE Lighting, we design germicidal lighting systems that blend seamlessly into existing infrastructure. By pairing advanced UVC technology with intelligent software, we create solutions that are discreet, effective, and easy to install. Our mission is to redefine what light can do by transforming everyday fixtures into invisible tools for better indoor environments.

Indoor air is constantly shared and recirculated, carrying everyday germs and viruses. Traditional fixes like HVAC upgrades or purifiers filter air but often miss the upper zone where circulation occurs.

What’s missing is a way to treat that shared air continuously and unobtrusively. Spaces need a solution that works in the background, integrates with existing fixtures, and enhances air safety without changing how a room feels.

RARE Lighting delivers that by targeting the upper air zone, a long-overlooked layer critical to indoor air strategies.

The Problem We Solve

How We Solve It

At RARE Lighting, we created the HALO to make air disinfection simple, effective, and invisible.

The HALO is a modular UVC LED disc that retrofits directly onto ceiling fans and pendant lights. It projects invisible germicidal light into the upper air of a room, where circulation naturally happens, continuously treating the air without disturbing the people below.

Why It’s Different

Most solutions rely on bulky purifiers or costly HVAC upgrades and still miss the upper air. The HALO retrofits onto existing fixtures, delivering invisible air disinfection.

Its advantage is HALO Analytics, software that standardizes installation by mapping obstacles and applying dosing strategies for precision and safety.

Designed to meet IEC, CDC, and ASHRAE guidelines, the HALO follows a simple rule: if it isn’t safe, it isn’t smart.

Who It’s For

The HALO is built for the places where people share air every day. It integrates seamlessly into hanging fixtures, making it ideal for:

  • Schools and universities

  • Offices and workplaces

  • Healthcare and assisted living

  • Hospitality, theaters, and event venues

Wherever people gather, the HALO helps make the air safer without changing how a space feels.

meet the founder

Rodney Branigan has spent decades performing in venues and gathering places around the world, from small community halls to busy theaters. When the COVID pandemic shut those spaces down, he turned his focus to researching how shared air could be made safer without changing how people interact or experience events together.

That work grew into RARE Lighting. Blending his background as both a performer and a curious technologist, Rodney set out to design lighting that doesn’t just illuminate a space but also quietly improves the air we all share. His journey as an artist and inventor continues to drive the company’s vision: technology that protects in the background so communities can thrive upfront.
